The BHS swim team competed in their 5A District Championship meet on Saturday. History was made!
Thirteen individual swimmers advanced to Regionals in their events, and all six relays qualified. The most we have ever had advance was 4 individuals and 5 relays, so this year was quite an accomplishment.
Out of 52 “splashes,” 42 of them were swimmers’ personal best times. That is also phenomenal.
There were also eleven new school records set.
Kelly Center, junior, set a record in the 500 free.
Payton Brown, sophomore, set a record in the 500 free.
Amelia Flug, freshman, set a record in the 200 free and in the 100 back.
James Miller, freshman, set a record in the 100 back.
Abby Brown, freshman, set a record in the 100 breast.
Nic Flug, senior, set a record in the 100 breast.
Laerke Hojbjerg, junior, set a record in the 50 free.
The girls’ relay team of Amelia Flug, Abby Brown, Grace Ruby, and Laerke Hojbjerb set a record in the 200 Medley.
The boys’ relay team of James Miller, Nic Flug, Gavin Whetstone, and Payton Brown set a record in the 200 Medley.
The girls’ relay team of Amelia Flug, Grace Ruby, Kelly Center, and Laerke Hojbjerg set a record in the 200 free relay.
The following swimmers got to stand on the championship blocks and earned medals:
Amelia Flug – 2nd place 200 Free and 100 back
Laerke Hojbjerg- 3rd place 50 free and 2nd place 100 fly
Girls’ 200 free relay team – 2nd place
Nic Flug – 3rd place 100 breast
And, as a small side note, both the boys’ and girls’ team beat the swim team at that school across town.
Our next meet is the Regional meet which is February 5th and 6th. Please cheer these swimmers on as they prepare for their regional competition.
