  • Swim Results

Saturday, the BHS swim team competed at the Cowtown Shootout. The meet is called a Shootout because there is a tournament-like competition throughout the day swimming the 50 free. Every competitor begins (and there were 136), but only the top 16 move on. After the top 16 swim for a second time, the top eight move on. This continues until the final two are left. We had three girls make it to the top 16: Kelly Center, Amelia Flug, and Aaliyah Young. We had one boy in the top 16 – James Miller. After the top 16 swam, Aaliyah and James qualified to move to the top 8. Aaliyah advanced to the top four, and the the final shootout, where she swam against a swimmer from Mansfield. She finished in second place out of 108 other girls. James finished in 7th place, beating out 135 other competitors.

While the 50 free was being spaced out, the other events comprised the Pentathlon – a 100 IM, then a 50 each of the breast stroke, back stroke, fly, and the original freestyle. Six of our 8 girls competed in all five events and finished in the following places: Amelia Flug – 8th; Aaliyah Young – 11th; Tiffany Graham – 19th; Abigail Brown – 32nd; Vegas Jankowski – 40th; and Abby Gillis – 58th.

The boys finished the Pentathlon as follows: James Miller – 10th; Payton Brown – 14th; Colton Page – 36th; Isa Galoob – 37th; and Nathan Melia – 41st.

The team as a whole finished in third place, outscoring 13 other teams, including the one across town. Aaliyah Young set a new school record in the 50 free with her time of 25.82. All in all, it was a pretty great day at the pool. Next stop is District. Wish them all well.

  • Harvest Bowl

The swim team competed in the Harvest Bowl again this year, and finished in first place! Each food item earned the team points. The swimmers spent the past 10 weeks volunteering their time to stand in front of the Dollar Store and City Market grocery store, asking shoppers to purchase an item and donate it. They earned 110,743 points, beating the second place team – the Next Step Pregnancy Planning Center – by 20,333 points. The swim team, which has 28 members, plus parents, competed against the Pathway Church (with 1500 members) and the Centennial senior class (with 400 members). They may be small, but they’re mighty! Winning first place netted them the first place prize. Way to go, team!

  • Swim Results

The BHS swim team competed in Lewisville on Saturday, December 10. The meet was host to 18 teams, only four of which were 5A. Swimming against mostly 6A schools, the BHS team had their work cut out for them, especially since they were swimming without six of the team members. They finished well, placing 7th as a team. The girls’ team finished in sixth place and the boys’ team in seventh.

    Highlights of the day:

Jaden Griffin swam his 200 freestyle as a butterfly stroke. Everyone in the natatorium was on their feet after his first 50, cheering him on. It was epic.

James Miller set a new school record in his 200 Individual Medley with a time of 2:12.89.

Amelia Flug finished in fourth place in her 100 butterfly.

Aaliyah Young finished in first place in her 500 freestyle.

The girls’ A team finished in 4th place in the 200 free relay. Team was Amelia Flug, Abigail Brown, Tiffany Graham, and Aaliyah Young.

James Miller finished third in his 100 back.

Most Valuable Swimmers: Aaliyah Young and James Miller

The team continues to improve as a whole as we continue the journey to District.
